SisterMagic is a dance, drag, circus and theatre production company led by Elizabeth and Melissa Castañeda.

In 2006, they debuted their dance ensemble “The Fossettes” in San Francisco after their training with the Lines Ballet and Cornish College of the Arts. Shortly thereafter they also launched a dance studio and event space “Twin Space Continuum” in the Mission District where many collaborations and creative projects took place.

Their captivating aesthetic has led them to many collaborations with festivals, events, and artist collectives  throughout the west coast including:  Lightning in a Bottle festival, Symbiosis festival, The Traveling Spectacular, Dance Lovers, ODC’s Pilot Program, The Fire Arts Festival, Burning Man, and more.

The last 6 years they have focused on directing and producing world-class cabaret shows for the Star Star Roadhouse venue at The Burning Man Festival featuring internationally acclaimed circus, dance and aerial performers.  Each year’s unique show revolves around a central character who takes the audience on a transformational odyssey. The journey is brought to life by shifting visual landscapes of dancers, acrobats, aerialists, stylized characters and unimaginable stage props.

Working as a team on their projects, Elizabeth directs and choreographs while Melissa designs and builds the costuming, and together they make Sister Magic.  Melissa and Elizabeth are both able to hold the stage as solo performers, but prefer to work within an ensemble of dancers, actors, and circus artists.

SisterMagic is capable of producing spectacular, full length shows meant to wow an audience, but they can also generate intimate and authentic choreography.  Their eponymous piece, Sister Magic, was created for James Graham’s “Dance Lovers” showcase of duets about love - themed around their complex and sometimes tortured relationship with their mother who suffered from muscular dystrophy.

These whimsical red-headed Castaneda twins have been symbiotically creating performance art their entire lives. They have over 25 years of ballet training and also have extensive experience in other forms of dance such as modern, jazz, graham technique, flamenco, musical theatre, experiential theatre, cabaret, and circus.
